What is the FISA International Tour?

FISA World Rowing Tours are organised annually for recreational rowers from 16 or more countries. Generally Tours will be for between 60 & 80 rowers.

FISA’s first World Rowing Tour took place in 1971 on Lake Constance in Germany. Since then FISA Tours have been conducted every year in numerous countries in 5 continents.

The primary object of FISA Tours is to use Tour Rowing as a means to promote international understanding and fraternity. It also serves as an introduction to tour rowing to countries that only know rowing as a competitive sport. The FISA World Rowing Tour DownUnder 2010 will also introduce many rowers to coastal rowing boats – a new FISA boat classification.

On FISA Tours, rowers row in different boats, with different crews, with a different international mix, each day for a week. This facilitates great fraternity. You certainly get to know someone after rowing in the same boat for a day. Great tour rowing networks have evolved over the years through the facility of FISA Tours.

FISA Tour rowers get a special insight into the culture of the host country, shown to them by their brothers & sisters in rowing, and the beauty of the waterways & environs showcased to them on the tours. The FISA World Rowing Tour DownUnder 2010 will showcase Brisbane and its beautiful river and Noosa, its pristine river and lakes and the World Heritage Areas of the Everglades and Upper Noosa River.

The host country provides accommodation, meals, boats and transport between the accommodation and the boats each day. Rowers and their hosts dine together throughout the Tour. And there is always the farewell party to conclude each Tour!
