Highlights

  • The O’Connor Boathouse is the social centre in town.
  • CRC uses proceeds from the O’Connor Boathouse dance floor to raise revenue.
  • CRC recovers from disaster!


1962 – CRC win the Champion Men’s 8+ of Queensland.

1963 – CRC win the Champion Men’s 8+ of Queensland. The O’Connor clubhouse is a popular Record Hop with Bill Gates the DJ. Sports cars line up for poll position outside the clubhouse door. The Bee Gees and other hip bands are playing, and it is standing room only! They are dancing the clubhouse 2 step — the O’Connor clubhouse is the place to be!

1967 – CRC receives a notice to quit! The government needs to build the Southeast Freeway. They seek compensation for lost revenue from the dance hall.

1968 – Tragedy! The famous O’Connor clubhouse burns down. No compensation is received. The arsonist leaves a message at the courthouse “Judge NOT lest you be judged”. The only option is to row from the patched up bottom floor of the burnt-out O’Connor clubhouse.
