Our history: 1970–1979

Highlights

  • CRC establishes new rowing premises.
  • CRC competes in a lot of local and regional regattas.

  • More women are signing up for membership.


1970 – CRC is getting its new clubhouse sorted — an old warehouse owned by the Brisbane City Council at 22 Stanley St South Brisbane. CRC members do a lot of the fit-out themselves. Ken Monk and helpers build magnificent new pontoon staging.

1974 – CRC survives the flood. Wal Hughes gets the “new” boat house officially opened by Lord Mayor Clem Jones. Clubhouse 7.

1977 – CRC attends the monumental 100th AGM. They host the Centennial Regatta, have their own float at Warana, and past captains get together.

1979 – CRC wins the Queensland Championship Women’s 8+.
