Our history: 2010–2019

Highlights

  • CRC survives a period of low membership and financial downturn.

  • CRC hosts the Men’s Passport Program.
  • 140th anniversary celebration.
  • CRC gets a clubhouse upgrade.


2010 – CRC membership and finances are in decline. CRC seeks ways to rebuild.

2011 – CRC survives another flood!  Its pontoon is identified out in Moreton Bay, beyond repair! The Corporate Regatta is cancelled, and CRC operates at a loss.

2012 – CRC Corporate Regatta in partnership with the Life Stream Foundation earns $25k profit. Peter Toon makes a successful application to host the Men’s Passport Program — a joint Rowing Australia, Queensland Academy of Sport and Rowing Queensland initiative. 8 of the best schoolboy rowers in town arrive at CRC. CRC masters women compete in the Head of the Charles, CRC schoolgirl squad competes in New Zealand. CRC gradually returns to a surplus. City Cat runs over 2 young club members who escape serious injury.

2012 – Maddie Edmunds wins the World Rowing Championship U23 W4x.

2013–2017 – CRC masters women compete at the FISA World Masters Games in Varese, Italy; Henley Regatta; FISA World Masters Games in Copenhagen and World Masters Games in Karapiro, New Zealand.

2016 – Maddie Edmunds competes in Rio Olympics W4x. CRC Juniors compete in the New Zealand Christmas regatta.

2017 – CRC secures a Queensland Government grant of $117,850 for a clubhouse upgrade. CRC celebrates its 140th anniversary with a guest appearance from Kim Brennan (nee Crowe) — Rio Olympic 1x gold medal champion. CRC President proclaims “140 years old! What an amazing, resilient, persistent and great community minded club we have”.

2018 – Mark Roome suffers a fatal heart attack while rowing with friends. Vale Bill Sole — life member and benefactor bequests $100k to CRC.

2019 – Adam Bakker wins the World Rowing Championship U23M4+. CRC masters women compete at the FISA World Rowing Masters in Budapest. CRC clubhouse upgrade is completed by builder and club member, Kevin Hayes and overseen by ‘Club Architect’ John Anderson. Life member Kev Kehoe passes away.
