Our history: 2020–2025

Highlights

  • An unusual time – responding to the Covid epidemic.
  • Loss of significant long-term members.
  • 6 Australian selections.
  • 3 winning Head of Yarra crews.
  • CRC builds a successful youth development program.
  • CRC enters coastal boat racing.


2020 – Covid strikes, and the clubhouse closes for 7 weeks. The year also sadly marks the death of Terry Connolly (former captain), Trish Burton (CRC friend), Steve Hinchy (OAM and Life Member CRC, Rowing Queensland and Rowing Australia), Bob Clifton (former captain) and Russ McLellan (former captain).

2021 – Jacinta Edmunds is selected as reserve for Tokyo Olympics W8+. Jacinta later joins the CRC coaching team. CRC survives another flood and members work hard to move the fleet and equipment to higher ground. CRC junior rowing program begins to reap rewards with medals won at the Queensland, NSW and Australian Rowing Championships.

2023 – Jack O’Toole is selected for the World Rowing Coastal Championship. The Brisbane City Council offers to renew the lease for 4 years only!  Clubhouse 9 coming up?

2024 – Sami Blanchard is selected for the World Rowing Coastal Championship. CRC masters women compete at the FISA World Rowing Masters in Germany.

2025 – CRC establishes the Commercial Rowing Club Future Fund to safeguard the future prosperity of our great club!
